Carl “Boomer” Stout has been in the fly fishing industry for over 30 years. He started guiding in Colorado in 1984, and went from there to guiding in Alaska at Katmai Lodge for 4 years. He started working for Trout Creek Flies in 1990. After becoming a member of the G. Loomis Pro Staff, he made many appearances in the International Sportsman’s Expo Shows in the Master Tying Theater and as a casting instructor/demonstrator. This has led to appearances in shows on TV, such as, the Outdoorsman. 
He is well known in the industry as a fly designer, designing many popular and successful flies for Alaska and on the Green River. He is currently a Royalty Fly designer for Umpqua. He spends part of the off season instructing classes in the art of tying the classic full dress feather wing Atlantic salmon flies. He recently wrote a chapter on the Green River in the book; “50 Best Tailwaters to Fly Fish” by Terry and Wendi Gunn. 
When he’s not on the water, his other passion is music. He got his nickname playing electric bass guitar.
